Frequently Asked Questions.

The failure of an engine management system does not happen every day. Some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) can be a helpful starting point. To prepare you for initial discussions with your garage, we have listed the most important questions below. Let us know if you have comments and suggestions for improvement.

What is the price of a failure diagnosis?

The price is 60 € plus VAT plus shipment. You receive a qualified assessment whether the control unit can be repaired or has to be replaced by an overhauled engine control unit. If we receive a repair order, the assessment fee is deducted from the repair costs. For new customers, the repaired or refurbished engine control unit is delivered as payment on delivery. We ask for your understanding.

How do I find out whether my control unit is defective?

In 90% of cases, your first point of contact will be the professional garage. Often they will suggest replacing the old unit with a new one. At this point you can make use of our services. Within 48 hours you will receive an answer about the repair procedure. It’s time well invested since you can save up to 50% of the cost compared to mounting a new unit.

Do I get a warranty for a repaired or overhauled control unit?

Yes. We provide a 12 month warranty on any repaired item and a 24 month warranty on replacement units (overhauled control units).

Which information do you need to be able to give a qualified assessment?

That depends. If you are enquiring about a compatible control unit for a specific vehicle type we’ll need the control unit number (found on the control unit itself), the specific type and make of vehicle, the VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number) and year of manufacture. Please provide this information using our repair order form.

For a diagnosis, please send in the control unit together with the completed repair order form. For the fastest response, please provide as much information as possible.

Are there any engine control units you cannot repair?

Motor vehicle technology is continuously evolving. Our focus on development meets this trend so that 90% of control units (including most well-known makes) can be fixed or overhauled by us. Whether your control unit can be repaired can only be determined after we receive the required information.

Is it possible to tune-up a petrol engine with a chip?

Yes, we can do that too. However, the performance enhancement for injection/suction engines differs from the effect in turbo engines.

Chip tuning or digital accessory unit? Which kind of tuning fits my diesel?

This decision is as diverse as the two possibilities themselves. When a chip is mounted inside the control unit, the performance enhancement is optimized and, with the appropriate driving style, there can even be a fuel saving.

In either case, the mounting should be done by a professional. The digital accessory unit is not mounted directly into the control unit. The mounting is less complicated and can be done by a professional within a few minutes. The effects are similar.
With a diesel tuning a performance enhancement of up to 30 bhp is possible depending on the vehicle type.

Do you mount the tuning chip into my control unit?

Yes. Once we have confirmed a date, you can send in your control unit. We test the operability and then mount the chip. After 3 to 4 days we’ll send back the converted control unit with a 12 month warranty included.

Is a diesel tuning subject to TÜV-review?

Yes. This applies within Germany. In other countries, other regulations may apply.

Is a diesel tuning reversible?

Yes, we can do that for you too. The procedure is the same as the chip installation.
